The dreary, cold winter months are a perfect time to catch up on reading. There are so many fiction and nonfiction books to choose from that you will have no problem finding the books that are right for you. Plus, you can learn valuable information and have a new sense of comprehension if you choose to read books on environmental issues. Whether you are learning how to be more environmentally friendly or want information on how to take more action, there are books out there to enhance your eco-awareness.
Forty Signs of Rain by Kim Stanley Robinson answers the following questions: What will the world be like if global warming continues? This fiction novel follows the lives of Senate Environmental staffer Charlie Quibler and his wife Anna on their heroic journey.
Did you know that water has a memory? Japanese scientist Masaru Emoto uses images and research in his book titled The Hidden Messages in Water to show how water can be affected by our words, thoughts, feelings and actions.
Thomas Berry’s The Great Work expresses that it’s a defining moment for humanity when our greatest accomplishment will be saving our environment from destruction. Become inspired by Berry’s perspective and sense of hope for humanity. If you want more statistics, theories and predictions about the future of our world, read Duane Eglin’s Promise Ahead.
For a listing of more popular books, check Oprah’s Book Club, which has highly suggested A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. This book discusses humanity as it is now and how it can be changed for the better. Also peruse The New York Times Best Sellers. This listing includes Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin, which explains vegetarianism/veganism through witty and intelligent prose.
Books can help you become a more well-rounded person who can appreciate both sides of the story. Environmental issues are changing every day and becoming more complex, so if you are passionate about making a positive change in the world, you are going to need to be knowledgeable in the field.
