3402411748_a8826517ffAre you always trying to fit more in your day? Or are you killing yourself to get your children to all of their summer extracurricular activities? If you’re life has turned into chaos this summer, it’s time to slow it down and simplify.

Work outside and inside the home can get in the way of spending quality time with your family. Although being able to work overtime in this economy is a blessing, it’s important to pace yourself so you see your family and get your sleep. Even watching television and spending free time online can be a distraction to what really matters most, and you can get drawn into mindless consumerism.

How can you take step back?

First, take a look at your schedule and figure out where most of your time is spent. How often are you at home? If you work outside the home and also take work home with you every day, this isn’t a good balance. Also, assess your extracurricular activities. Are you driving all over the place to get yourself or your kids to places? Maybe it’s time to drop an activity or at least determine whether your schedule is really enriching your life.

The next step is to reorganize your home. What have you purchased in the last year that you don’t really need? If you have several of these items, put them in a pile and either give them away as gifts, donate them or sell them. When you don’t take the time to look at your spending habits, it’s easy to buy items you want but don’t need.

Simplifying your life isn’t an easy task. However, you will have more peace of mind as well as more awareness for the environment. It’s not hard to fall into unhealthy habits for you and your family, especially when it comes to work, social events and consumerism.
