Natural Health Tips for Summer

During the summertime, you might have the urge to eat everything, because there so many delicious foods come out this time of the year including ice cream, potato salad, pasta salad, lunch meat sandwiches, etc. But really those types of food aren’t healthy for you, and many of them are only going to load your body up with fat and excess sodium, which isn’t good for your heart. So how can you enjoy summer without feeling like you have to give up so much?
When it’s hot and humid, it’s even more important to hydrate your body, but you should be doing this every day no matter how hot it is outside. By drinking more water, your skin will look better, and your appetite will also be suppressed. It’s even more beneficial to put fresh lemon in your water, because it will help you burn calories and boost your metabolism. Plus, the lemony water will taste better too.
Snacking on ice cream and sugary candy isn’t wise, especially if you’re trying to maintain your weight and look out for your teeth. Instead you can create fresh smoothies for yourself, family and friends. Picking the fruit from your backyard for the drinks is even better. You can create powerful fruit drinks full of fiber and antioxidants that will satisfy your sugar craving.
The next thing to tackle is excess sodium, which you’re probably consuming if you’re eating lunch meat, aged cheeses and other processed foods. So make whatever food you can by scratch. Instead of buying canned beans, cook dried lentils yourself. Of course, it takes longer, but you’re protecting your heart.
Yes, it’s summertime so it’s alright to have tastes of those bad foods, but try to cook your own meals instead of microwaving processed foods. Also, the more vegetables and fruits you can eat from your backyard, the less money you will have to spend.
