Camping is an incredible opportunity to connect with nature, and it will also give you a chance to re-prioritize your life since you can’t take all of your belongings and luxuries with you. Taking the family camping a few times every year can be a fun family trip that will help build a bond among all of you. But before you go out into the wilderness, there are some essential items you will want to have in your backpack.

Of course, a tent goes without question, but it’s beneficial to learn how to create a “tent” from tree branches and leaves just in case something happened to your manufactured shelter. In addition, it’s helpful to take along a compact sized pillow, because you want to be on top of your game and not have to hike with neck and back pain.

In order to stay clean, it will make camping life easier if you have a multi-functional soap. In other words, a soap that can clean your body, hair, clothing, pots, etc. is convenient. Also, it doesn’t hurt to pack a small towel to absorb sweat or to use as a washer. While on the topic of hygiene and health, it’s essential to use and have an insect repellent that is DEET-free.

For delicious campfire meals, it’s best to plan as far ahead as you can. For example, portable egg containers enable you to have hard-boiled and uncooked eggs ready for breakfast, lunch and dinner options. It’s also a good idea to have a spice container with some of your favorite flavorings—this is the easiest way to make even the blandest campfire foods tasty.

Some other random items you will need include mug and bowl sets, a compact bowl for the dog and some sporks. When you have the basic items you need to survive, camping can be a truly enjoyable experience, and you can always count on the beautiful scenery and majestic wildlife to put you at peace.
