Kate Gosselin Can Build a Chicken Coop, So Can You
July 21, 2010 – 3:07 pm by MarinaHanesKate Gosselin might be an admitted control freak, but at least she accomplishes what she sets out to, which is a valuable characteristic for a mother to possess. Gosselin was in the news for her most recent project: a backyard family chicken coop. In a household of nine, chicken eggs go pretty fast—Gosselin claims to purchase at least four or five dozen on a weekly basis! Obviously, that is a significant amount, so her smart and realistic solution is to have backyard chickens.
Now if you have the means to construct a chicken coop with your own hands and surplus wood supply, have at it! However, another option is to hire the Amish, which is just what the Gosselin family did. Farmer Dave and Farmer Dan brought over an easy-to-assemble chicken coop, which provides enough space for 16 chickens and one rooster. Their coop is particularly functional, and it has removable flooring that can be taken out for cleaning.
In addition to providing nutritious and protein rich eggs for this large family, these chickens will also improve the children’s sense of responsibility. It will teach them how to be self-sufficient, cost-effective and accountable. This is what living off the grid is all about…increasing your independence and teaching the next generation to do the same thing. For as much flack as Gosselin receives, she runs a household well and even has the Gosselin Household Systems & Maintenance Manual: Everything a Single Mom Needs to Know to Run Our Little Piece of the World to prove it.
