Read, Watch & Enjoy: Where to Find Eco-friendly & Inexpensive Entertainment

July 7, 2010 – 2:12 pm by MarinaHanes

Is all of your money going to bills and credit cards? After allocating your money to all of the necessities such as food, gas, clothing for the kids, etc. every month, it’s depressing when you’re left with $100 or less for incidentals and fun. Instead of spending your time sulking about the fact that you’re broke, you can enjoy the free things in life…yes, free things do still exist and they’re eco-friendly too!

The Library

Supporting your local library is one of the best ways to ensure that you can enjoy eco-friendly and inexpensive entertainment. Of course, the library is the ultimate place for bookworms, but there are also CDs and DVDs available to borrow too. You might even be fortunate enough to live within walking distance, which means no need to gas up your car.

In addition to borrowing items from your local library, they also host many events. Many of the things they have going on might be geared toward children, but often, there are seminars and workshops for adults too. Do you have an interest in learning about grant writing, networking with other businesses in the area or increasing your computer know-how? Then check out the library for a list of the upcoming events.

The Park and Community

The next place to look for fun activities is your local park or community. During the summer, it’s common for towns and cities to have festivals. If you just want to walk around and get out of your house for a night, this might be enough to make you happy.

Also, a park can be a quiet and beautiful place to do your work or read a good book. By calling your local park, you can find out about hiking tours, kayaking lessons, etc. If your park doesn’t hold events, make up your own! Watching the birds, water and trees is a great way to relax and increase your consciousness of the world around you without having to spend a dime.
