Depending on your climate, it might be challenging for you to grow tomatoes all year round. Although it’s possible to do this, you don’t have to toil over your tomatoes to ensure that you have enough for the year. Instead you can just use a lazy yet effective technique to preserve your tomatoes when they’re the freshest and easiest to grow.
Gardens can be unpredictable, because the weather, soil and even wildlife can have negative effects on your harvest. However, when you’re able to grow a bunch of tomatoes at once, you definitely want to preserve them for those months when it’s more difficult to grow them. Plus, if you enjoy cooking homemade sauce for pastas, fresh tomatoes are definitely a top priority on the ingredients list. So how can you ensure that you have tomatoes all year without stressing over it?
The Quick and Easy Freezing Process
Obviously, before freezing your homegrown tomatoes, you need to pick them from the vine when they’re ripe and wash them. Then comes the hard part…throwing them into a freezer bag! With this freezing method, you can take out however many tomatoes you think you will need, so you don’t have to waste five on a meal that is just for two people.
When you remove the tomatoes from the freezer, give them a rinse with warm water, and the skin will easily rub off. Even though the inside of the tomatoes will be frozen solid, you can still put them in a pot to create your famous pasta sauce.
Not only are tomatoes tasty in salads and pasta sauces, they are good for your health and have been proven to reduce cancer, heart disease, cataracts and other illnesses. These vegetables contain many nutrients including vitamin C, vitamin A and potassium.
